Update on steam punk quilt.
My quilt has been going slowly. But after taking some time to think about how to properly layer the parts without messing up. Well hopefully with minimal mess ups. I decided to use parchment paper to temporarily fuse my parts down. So they could be layered together and pieced.
At first it was a bit of an experiment that wasn't sure if it was going to work. I kept doing research online and couldn't find anything online to help me figure out what I needed to know. at one point I found a type of silicone product that is meant for applique parts for layering that you can peel off and then fuse to your background fabric. But this product was not only not that big for what I needed it was all so expensive for what it was. I recalled a Blog talking about parchment paper, and using it for applique. but when I kept trying to go back and do further research on this I couldn't find it anywhere.
So finally I got the guts to try it. I started with a few sample pieces that way I wasn't wasting my actual project. And it actually worked.
Here are some pictures showing the step by step process of piecing together the applique steampunk parts.
I started by the layering my parchment paper on top of my design so I could see through it and line up my parts according to the image. As I got the parts lined up, I would take my iron and iron the layering Parts together once I knew all those parts in that spot we're together.
At this point once all the pieces were layered together, it was time to peel it off and iron it to my background fabric.
Now all that is left for this applique panel pieces to be applique Stitch down. Then I need to decide on what type of Border I'm going to design or what type of pattern I'm going to want to use.
I'm very excited that this is coming together quite well. My Hope says maybe next year I'll be able to enter it into a quilt show.
Thank you for stopping by and checking out the progress on this quilt. Keep checking for new updates.
Well I figure I will keep this one post going instead of make another for my steam punk quilt. Its now June 2019 and I finally have this quilt fully quilted. I just need to make and do the binding.
I really need to get my bottom in gear, so I can enter this into the quilt show. I have never entered anything before, so I am nervous. I hope the judges like it.
