A quilt for Lex
There comes a time when you see a design/ pattern and know you have to make it for someone. For whatever reason that may be, it has spoken to you!
That is what happened with Paisley Splash. http://www.windhamfabrics.net/cgi-bin/fabricshop/projects.cgi?patternID=438 This site sends you to the free pattern for the awesome elephant quilt.
Anyways when I saw this quilt I just knew I needed to make it for a soon to be mom, that my husband worked with a few years ago. I knew she was choosing elephants as a theme for her baby boy, but I had no idea why my heart was telling me to make this quilt for someone I never met in person.
Next thing I knew I was reading that they had baby Lex at 23 weeks 4 days gestation and weighing in at 1lb.7oz. My heart knew this is why the pattern was speaking out to me. All babies need a quilt and all quilts are made with love. Some believe the love put into a quilt has healing powers with hope and joy.

Here are my pieces all fused and cut out. If only I could figure out how to get it to go to correct scale I would have my Cricut cut it out lol!
HST! I love the look of them and like making them. I loath trimming them lol. This is what I choose for my boarders.
(Tips if you ever go to make this or something like this, don't use poly cotton fabric. At least don't for your background.)
No I am not a member of the "Quilt police" lol. In fact I am still kind of shocked people butt their noses into like that.
Anyways there is reason why I suggest not to use poly cotton as your background fabric with applique projects. Your fabric bunches up! You can see somewhat of what I am talking about in these two pics up above.
I FMQ on my machine. I started with just outlining the appliqued parts. Then just started to do some type of swirl . (I am still learning and improving on my fmq skills).
And there you have it a special quilt for a special little boy. <3
